Club Director, Head Coach - 13U Gold

Rebecca grew up playing multiple sports. Once her dad introduced her to volleyball, that's all she wrote! She fell in love with it instantly! Growing up in Hawai'i she played with the PAL league and her intermediate school before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Coming from Hawai'i she expected Las Vegas to also have a intermediate/middle school team. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. She actually argued with her schools principle during her citizen of the month luncheon demanding they start a middle school team! Fast forward many years later, she's very excited to see MS volleyball is now a "thing!"

Rebecca played for Silverado HS from 2004-2008. Her overall record during her time with the Skyhawks is 85-5. She is a 3x Regional Champion, State Runner-Up, and State Champion. Earning 2nd Team All-Conference 2005, and 1st Team All-Conference 2006 & 2007. Her favorite memory with the Skyhawks is what Coach Jennifer Boedekker brought to the program. "She pushed me mentally. More than any coach I've had. She broke everything down and explained the "method to the madness" which was rare because not a lot of coaches did that back then. Coach Boedekker really helped me understand how important the mental side of this game is. I'm extremely grateful for her."

She began her club volleyball journey a little later than most, as club volleyball was not very popular in Hawai'i while she was growing up.

From 2004-2006 Rebecca played for the highly esteemed Robert "Bob" Kelly and Kelly O'Quinn Johnson at Nevada Jrs. - let's just say, they're volleyball legends. She credits much of her volleyball IQ, skill, and success to their teachings. "I reference Bob and Kelly quite often when I'm coaching. When I ask my athletes about their court awareness and mechanics, I can see both of my coaches from NVJ clear as day doing the same for me. As a setter for NVJ it was mandatory that we show up an hour before we actually started so we could train. I'd do my warm up, practice footwork until it was perfected, and then set into the catcher. Let me tell you, it was TOUGH. My form would get critiqued to the nth degree. At the time it was discouraging because I'd keep thinking about how late I started my club career and how everyone else was leagues ahead of me. Now, as an adult, I think about how silly it was to put that much pressure on myself and how comparative I was to other athletes. Granted, I had a lot of "catching up" to do. I learned to take it all with a grain of salt because it ultimately made me better. I really do owe so much to Bob and Kelly. I'll never understand what potential they saw in a club "newbie" but man, I sure am grateful."

From 2006-2008 Rebecca finished her club volleyball journey with Club Vegas under the direction of another Vegas volleyball contender, Jeff Richard. "Coach Richard had no problem calling each of us out if we weren't performing. Our team was made up of the very best in the valley. He would remind us to check our egos at the door or he'd do it for us. I wouldn't say he demanded perfection, he wanted us to show up and work hard. He was tough but he was always fair. Jeff didn't like anyone wasting time, especially when it came to practice. If you weren't there to work hard, he'd tell you to leave. That team was STACKED with talent. It was very humbling to have played with some of Vegas' finest during my time with Club Vegas."

Rebecca was also part of the USAV/HP pipeline! Lots of fond memories going to USA High Performance tryouts (now USAV NTP) and playing with red & gold teams.

Following her high school graduation, Rebecca was offered a full-ride scholarship to a Junior College (JuCo) in Prescott, Arizona - Yavapai College. She has a lot of love and respect for JuCo programs. "JuCo's have this negative stigma around them. Which is crazy to me! If anything, they help prep you for your next journey to the NCAA or NAIA! Preseason training was eye opening. We were doing 3-a-day practices. Cardio/Pool workouts, Weights, then we'd finally get in the gym to do jump training and MAYBE touch a volleyball for the last hour at the end of our third practice. Coach Cohen meant business. I remember him asking us if we thought this was tough - we all said yes. He then told us, "Welcome to college volleyball."

Rebecca has coached for a few CCSD high school programs, Silverado, Liberty, & Green Valley, and club for CSA of Nevada. She has experience working with athletes ages 8-21 on all-skills as well as individual skill development. She also has worked with the SCVA event crew, officiated at the NIAA level, and actually helps run the Durango Fall Classic - another nod at her former coaches, Bob Kelly & Kelly O'Quinn Johnson.

Currently, Rebecca is the Assistant Coach for the College of Southern Nevada Women's Volleyball team.  They are a D1 Junior College (JuCo) program located in Las Vegas, NV.  "I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity. Coach Diehl truly cares about this program and for her to bring me on board, means so much. The volleyball world is such a tight-knit community across the nation, we actually figured out that we had played against each other in the Durango Fall Classic when we were in high school. It has been a very " full circle" moment for sure!"

"A lot of my love for this game is because of my dad. He was self taught, played in high school, and then played for USMC. So many memories of me being in the stands watching him play. My dad always made sure he was at my practices, games, camps, you name it. He truly loves this game and it's infectious! Most people would say they tuned their parents out when they played. Admittedly, I always tuned in to hear and look for my dad. Knowing how much he supported me, means everything."

Outside of volleyball, Rebecca really enjoys traveling, being outdoors, and most importantly spending time with her kids, her husband, her dad, and her crazy sisters!

Keep your eyes peeled, you might catch her running around as a production coordinator at concerts, NCAA events, and events with the NBA!
